"FRAGMENT: ARTISTIC RESEARCH IN CREATIVE PRODUCTION FROM A SYMBOLIC AND CONTEMPORARY IMAGINARY"
This investigation explores the concept of the fragment as a vessel for the analysis of the imaginative process of artistic creation. The fragment represents the ever-changing nature of personal identity and becomes a medium to understand family ties, transformation, travel, migration, and cultures.
As a body of work, Fragments reflects the interplay of these themes and uses cardboard as a primary medium for expression. Cardboard is recycled and reused; in doing so transforms multiple layers of history and information.
This analysis aims to understand these concepts from a personal and contemporary perspective, exploring abstraction, syncretism and hybrid cultures. The fragment is presented as a vantage point for observation and the formulation of an alternative narrative; one that is the opposite to a holistic perspective. In doing so it facilitates reflection and comprehension. Moreover, the fragment becomes a metaphor for imagination and memory, leading us to question the manner in that we perceive these.
